Safety First, Performance Always: Why VG 2020 is the Safest, Most Effective Solvency Degreaser for Your Industry

Safety First, Performance Always: Why VG 2020 is the Safest, Most Effective Solvency Degreaser for Your Industry

When it comes to industrial degreasing, maintenance and production managers have historically faced a difficult trade-off: choose a solvent that’s powerful enough to cut through heavy-duty grime, or choose one that’s safe for your team and the environment. Powerful hydrocarbon-based solvents often come with a host of risks, from high VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions and flammability to serious health hazards for operators.

But what if you didn’t have to compromise?

From our product line at iBiotec, NEUTRALENE® VG 2020 represents a revolution in solvency degreasing. It is a high-performance bio-solvent designed to replace traditional hazardous solvents, delivering exceptional cleaning power without compromising on safety.

Here’s a breakdown of what makes VG 2020 the safest and most effective choice for your toughest jobs.

Unparalleled Safety Benefits

The primary design principle behind VG 2020 is safety. It systematically removes the risks associated with old-school degreasers, creating a safer work environment for everyone.

  • 100% Non-Flammable: With an exceptionally high flash point of over 170°C, VG 2020 is classified as non-flammable. This critical feature eliminates the risk of fire or explosion, even in confined spaces. It’s so stable, it can be safely used on surfaces as hot as 160°C without emitting hazardous vapours.
  • Zero VOCs and Low Odour: VG 2020 has zero Volatile Organic Compounds. This is a massive win for both operator health and environmental compliance, improving air quality and protecting your team from inhaling harmful fumes.
  • Completely Non-Hazardous: We can guarantee that VG 2020 contains zero hazardous, toxic, irritant, or CMR (Carcinogenic, Mutagenic, or Reprotoxic) substances. It’s a solution you can use with confidence, knowing you are not exposing your staff to long-term health risks.
  • 100% Plant-Based & Biodegradable: Derived from renewable, plant-based sources, VG 2020 is readily biodegradable. It offers a sustainable solution that protects our planet, breaking down naturally without harming the environment.

Uncompromising Effectiveness

A product being safe is one thing, but can it perform? Absolutely. VG 2020 is a powerhouse degreaser that meets and exceeds the performance of the caustic, petroleum-based solvents it’s designed to replace.

  • Incredibly Powerful: With a Kauri-Butanol (KB) value of 180, VG 2020 demonstrates exceptionally high solvent power.
  • Tackles the Toughest Grease: It is specifically formulated to be highly effective on the heaviest industrial contaminants. It provides immediate dissolution of black jack, tars, crude oil, heavy hydrocarbons, asphalt, combustion residues, and stubborn waxes.
  • Fast-Acting & Versatile: VG 2020 works immediately on contact, often without the need for significant mechanical scrubbing. It can be used pure for extreme contamination or diluted with water for more general cleaning, making it highly cost-effective.
  • Residue-Free Rinsing: One of its best features is that it’s completely water-rinsable. Whether you’re using fresh water or sea water (making it ideal for marine and offshore applications), it rinses clean, leaving a residue-free surface.

Who is VG 2020 For?

NEUTRALENE® VG 2020 is the ideal solvency degreaser for any high-risk or heavy-duty industry, including:

  • Oil & Gas (Onshore & Offshore): Perfect as a rig wash and for cleaning crude oil from equipment.
  • Refineries & Chemical Sites: Safely decontaminates and degreases tanks, pipes, and boiler casings.
  • Marine: Ideal for degreasing engine rooms, cargo holds, and decks, with the ability to be rinsed with sea water.
  • Heavy Industry: Use it in foundries, forges, and smelting operations where you can clean “hot” machinery without waiting for it to cool down.

Make the Switch to Safety and Performance

With NEUTRALENE® VG 2020, the choice is no longer “safety or performance.” You get both. You can eliminate hazardous chemicals from your workplace, protect your team, ensure environmental compliance, and still get the high-performance degreasing power your operation demands.

Replacing Acetone with Neutralene RG 30 for Safety and Savings

The Smart Switch: Replacing Acetone with Neutralene RG 30 for Safety and Savings

Acetone. It’s the ubiquitous, fast-acting solvent found across composites, printing, cleaning, and resin-handling industries. But while its cleaning power is undeniable, its drawbacks are equally significant: extreme flammability, high toxicity risk, and shocking consumption rates.

The truth is, modern industrial chemistry has far surpassed the need for such a high-risk solution.

At iBiotec, we champion safer, smarter alternatives, and products like Neutralene RG 30 (an immediate replacement for acetone) are leading the charge. Here is a head-to-head look at why making the switch is essential for the safety, efficiency, and budget of your operation.

1. Fire Safety: The Flashpoint Danger

The most critical difference between Acetone and Neutralene RG 30 lies in their flammability rating: the flashpoint. This is the lowest temperature at which a liquid gives off enough flammable vapour to ignite.

Comparison PointAcetoneNeutralene RG 30
Flashpoint (Closed Cup)-17C30C
Fire ClassificationExtremely Flammable (Highly Dangerous)Flammable (Significantly Safer)
Vapour HazardProduces flammable vapours even at freezing temperatures.Requires significant heat to produce flammable vapours.

The Safety Takeaway:

Acetone is classified as Extremely Flammable, meaning it poses a fire risk year-round, even in cold storage. Its vapours easily form explosive mixtures with air.

By contrast, Neutralene RG 30’s higher flashpoint of $30^{\circ}\text{C}$ dramatically reduces the risk of accidental ignition under normal workshop temperatures, creating a fundamentally safer working environment and easing regulatory compliance burdens.

2. Efficiency: The Vapour Pressure Cost

This is where many companies realise the true expense of using acetone. Acetone’s fast-drying property, often seen as a benefit, is actually a massive drain on resources due to its high vapour pressure (its tendency to evaporate).

Fact: Acetone’s Vapour Pressure is over 20 times greater than Neutralene RG 30. This means it disappears rapidly, forcing you to use more product.

Consumption Reduction: The 5x Advantage

Because acetone is so volatile, it evaporates almost instantly. If you are cleaning industrial parts, you are constantly adding more solvent just to keep the surface wet and effective.

Neutralene RG 30’s controlled, slower evaporation rate ensures the active solvent has enough contact time to fully dissolve resins, gelcoats, epoxies, and adhesives the first time. The result is a demonstrable reduction in purchasing volume.

  • Users report that one drum of a high-performance, controlled-evaporation solvent like Neutralene RG 30 can outlast 5 drums of traditional acetone. This translates to huge cost and waste savings.

Recycling for a Circular Economy

Acetone is difficult and costly to recycle due to its high volatility. Neutralene RG 30 is engineered to be reusable and recyclable. Its stable composition makes it easy to recover and distil, allowing you to reuse the product multiple times without loss of its physicochemical qualities.

3. Worker and Environmental Health

Beyond flammability, the high volatility of Acetone means workers are constantly exposed to high concentrations of irritating and hazardous vapours.

  • Toxicity: Acetone has a strong odour and is regulated for high exposure limits. Neutralene RG 30 is free of CMR (Carcinogenic, Mutagenic, Reprotoxic) substances.
  • Sustainability: Neutralene RG 30 is readily biodegradable, minimizing environmental impact compared to many traditional industrial solvents.
  • Irritation: While all solvents require caution, Neutralene RG 30 is formulated to be less aggressive than acetone, leading to less irritation with repeated exposure.

Conclusion: A Performance Upgrade

Making the switch from Acetone to a modern solution like Neutralene RG 30 is not a trade-off; it is a clear performance and safety upgrade. You gain superior cleaning power, dramatically reduce fire risk, and cut your solvent consumption by as much as 80%.

Food Safety with Detect Blue

Detectable Blue

The presence of foreign bodies in food is the primary cause of consumer complaints that can lead to the recall of all products.  The first step in food safety control methods is to identify these possible and dangerous foreign bodies. These codies may cause an illness or injury due to lack of control .

Every solid body must therefore be easily detectable, either by visual control for operators or by automated visual detection in large operations. These include X-rays, HSI hyperspectral imaging systems, 2D and 3D optical vision, colour contrast detectors, OpenCV-Python software application, and  hue, saturation and brightness (HSB) colour perception.

The absence of blue in foods makes this colour the standard for detection. This means for food safety, any item that is brought into the manufacturing areas has to be accounted for. For this reason all of the NSF products are manufactured as DETECT BLUE® equipment. This means all removable bodies such a capsules, caps, covers, diffusers, nozzles and extenders with associated risk are coloured blue.

The means this meets the HACCP, BRC Review 8 and IFS control methods that are required for food manufacturing.
